One of the key activities that saved me in early motherhood was exploring all of the beautiful and diverse local parks in the Daytona Beach area. Being outside, getting fresh air as a family, and forming a mom stroller group was our favorite way to pass time and still is! I grew up in this area for over half of my life and had no idea how many parks were in our community. Below is a list of parks (most of which I have personally explored and are family friendly). Do you have a favorite park that should be added to the list? Let me know!

  • Lake Beresford Park
    • Location: 2100 Fatio Road, DeLand
    • Description: "Lake Beresford Park is within the Lake Beresford Greenway, a 211-acre parcel that was acquired with assistance from the Florida Communities Trust in 1991. The park is highlighted by a 1.8-mile multi-use trail that follows the perimeter of the parcel. This trail connects to the Spring-to-Spring Trail, which allows patrons to walk, run, skate or bike three miles down to Blue Spring State Park." More info here.
    • My Favorite Features: This park is extremely scenic and is one of my favorite parks to bring the stroller to for a walk. Their paved walkways and shaded trails make this the perfect place for a family meet up. The trails are full of bicycle riders, other people walking and many friendly faces. They also have a playground in the central area of the trails with a mini climbing wall for the kids and picnic tables if you want to stop for lunch. This park is definitely worth the short drive out of Daytona and Deland has so many fun restaurants and activities to offer, it makes for a great day trip!

  • Smyrna Dunes Park:
    • Location:  2995 N Peninsula Ave, NSB
    • Description: "Perched on 73 acres of pristine land at the northern tip of the New Smyrna Beach peninsula, the area is surrounded by water on three sides. Waters from the Indian River flow through Ponce Inlet and into the Atlantic Ocean providing a variety of fishing or swimming venues for park goers. This park is unique because pets are welcome." More info here.
    • My Favorite Features: Views Views Views! There's nothing like going for a walk and being able to see the ocean and feel the beautiful weather. I love that this park has the option to walk your dogs right onto the beach or take the stroller friendly option and walk along the raised walkway with your family. There is also an abundance of covered picnic pavilions throughout the walk if you want to plan a day with the family to have lunch at the park.

  • Other Notable NSB Parks to Explore:
    • 27th Avenue Beachfront Park - 3701 S Atlantic Ave - Featuring a shaded playground and basketball courts.

    • Mary Avenue Park - 800 Mary Ave - Featuring community garden plots and a playground.

  • Sugar Mill Gardens
    • Location: 950 Old Sugar Mill Rd, Port Orange
    • Description: "The Dunlawton Plantation and Sugar Mill, a 19th-century cane sugar plantation in Port Orange, has been turned into a botanical garden, featuring dinosaur sculptures, gnome homes & waterfalls." More info here.
    • My Favorite Features:  I love that Sugar Mill Gardens has so many different features: the old plantation ruins, dinosaurs from "Bongoland," trails through the trees, a community garden full of potted plants for sale, sculptures, a human sun dial and more. There is constantly something to see everywhere you look. Also, the gardens are completely run by volunteers who are always there pruning and beautifying the plants AND Volusia County Rocks artists often hide their painted rocks in these gardens for walkers to find! While the park is a little more difficult to navigate with a stroller, it is definitely manageable and is extremely family friendly as a place to explore and get fresh air.

A large peaceful lake is on the property with fishing and viewing access provided by the Joyce Ebbets fishing pier, as well as a canoe/kayak ramp." More info here.
    • My Favorite Features: While Central Park has a TON to offer in the way of playgrounds, kayaking opportunities, beautiful scenery to walk through and more, my absolute favorite feature is the hidden gem of the Environmental Discovery Center. During a stroller walk, I literally stumbled on the center and was immediately hooked. They have so many learning opportunities for children and adults alike inside. There are worker bees in action whos ever-growing hive can be viewed through glass, tanks full of native fish with facts about the fish, a butterfly garden, rain barrels outside that teach about conservation and rotating displays and classes. The Environmental Discovery Center is an amazing free to the public center nestled right in the middle of Central Park.
